Two blog updates, two photos, two days!
I decided that my theme for November is going to be people and bikes. It gives me lots of room for creativity and confines me to a theme/themes just enough.
Enjoy the preview!
Continuity idea: books
Today at work I finally came up with a strong secondary idea for this blog that is awesome and will not compromise my integrity as a future professional journalist. It’s an effort to have a thread of continuity in this blog that’s not all about me.
So this is the plan: I will read random books that are of interest to me for some reason or another, and write what I think of them, good or bad, and tell you why I do or don’t like them, without faux enthusiastic, disingenuous phrases like “outstanding gem.” No, none of that here.
To kick things off, here is my first “random book with promise.”
Genius and Heroin:
The Illustrated Catalogue of Creativity, Obsession and Reckless Abandon
Like so many books on my list of things to read, I found this while working on a shelving project. If this one sucks, I am going to be really let down because it’s such a reliably fascinating topic (creative geniuses who are self destructive!) and the cover at least implies that it’s presented in an engaging, thoughtful and entertaining way.
I’ll let you know what I think (and why!) after I’ve read it. If you get to it before I do, let me know what you think. OR hit me up if you want to have an e-mail or instant message dialogue about this book.
Happy reading.
